Press release

LOS ANGELES, CA – Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez issued the following statement and provided remarks during today’s City Council meeting in response to federal prosecutors arresting the executive of a Los Angeles-based non-profit for allegedly stealing $23 million of taxpayer funds meant to address homelessness.

“I introduced legislation to allow the City to contract directly with homeless service providers because LAHSA has repeatedly failed to provide the basic oversight or accountability required for public resources.

“This case is yet another example of the enormous resources that have been wasted while
people remain unhoused and without help. This is indefensible and must end now. ”
