Los Angeles, CA – Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez brings together partners from L.A. County, LAUSD, and Citibank in proudly announcing the milestone achievement of providing over 100,000 LAUSD students with an Opportunity L.A. children’s savings account, as well as a $1.5 million grant from the State of California to utilize toward outreach efforts.
Guest speakers will include Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, LAUSD’s Frances Baez, Citibank’s Senior Vice President of Financial Access Partnerships, Marco Chavarin, and Abigail Marquez, General Manager of the City’s Community Investment for Families Department.
Opportunity L.A. (OLA), is the Children’s Savings Account (CSA) program offered by the City of Los Angeles, due to Councilwoman Rodriguez’s advocacy to make the program possible. It is the nation’s largest universal CSA program. Its objective is to make higher education, regardless of financial or immigration status, a reality for all students—including two-year degree programs, colleges, universities, and vocational institutions.
OLA is a partnership with the City, the County, and LAUSD. This initiative builds on Councilwoman Rodriguez’s work to expand opportunities for youth. Earlier this year she launched a youth apprenticeship program in partnership with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps that trains local youth to repair damaged sidewalks in their neighborhoods. The sidewalk program invests in our youth with paid on the job training and our communities. Councilwoman Rodriguez also led the way to create City’s Youth Development Department to ensure that young people are at the forefront of resource allocation, policy making and being empowered to become the next generation of leaders.
