Honored to speak this week with students in the UCLA MRED program for an engaging and energizing conversation about the future of real estate and urban development. We explored how public policy, planning, and investment decisions intersect—and how those choices shape equity, opportunity, and quality of life across our communities.

Grateful for the opportunity to share insights from my experience in public service and to exchange ideas with students who are clearly committed to making a meaningful impact in the field. The last thing Angelenos need is a ban on hosting a carne asada in their own backyards.

That’s why I led the charge to successfully vote down today’s proposed barbecue ban in residential neighborhoods and will continue standing up against tone-deaf policies that unfairly target neighborhood gatherings and long-standing community traditions.

Our small businesses are the heart of our district ❤️

I had the chance to visit and celebrate a few incredible spots in Pacoima: La Cocinita Restaurant, a 22-year old staple serving authentic Mexican cuisine, and El Pulgarcito, a beloved Salvadoran restaurant known for their pan con pollo and strong community support.

Local businesses are essential to our neighborhoods. They invest in our community, create jobs, and help keep our neighborhoods strong every day. Thank you to the staff and owners for welcoming us!

Today’s LA Metro D Line extension marks the beginning of a new era in Los Angeles!

Decades in the making, these new stations along the Wilshire Corridor will reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and make it easier for Angelenos to efficiently navigate our city.

The future of transportation in Los Angeles is being built now, and I look forward to future Metro expansions that are on the horizon!

Over the years, I’ve honored 80s New Wave and Alternative acts that haven’t always gotten their due for the cultural impact they had on a generation of young people searching for identity and belonging.

But last week, I made a point to honor those on the other side of that story. At LA City Hall, I recognized filmmaker and proud Angeleno Elizabeth Ai for her documentary and book ‘New Wave,’ which tells the long-overlooked story of how Vietnamese American youth in Southern California found community, expression, and a sense of belonging through that very same music and era.

As we celebrate AAPI Heritage Month, it’s a reminder that these interconnected stories are what make Los Angeles extraordinary.

A lo largo de los años, he reconocido a artistas del New Wave y Alternative de los años 80 que no siempre han recibido el reconocimiento que merecen por el impacto cultural que tuvieron en una generación de jóvenes en busca de identidad y pertenencia.

Pero la semana pasada, me enfoqué en honrar a quienes cuentan la otra cara de esa historia. En el Ayuntamiento de Los Ángeles, reconocí a la cineasta y orgullosa angelina Elizabeth Ai por su documental y su libro “New Wave”, que narran la historia, durante mucho tiempo ignorada, de cómo jóvenes vietnamitas estadounidenses en el sur de California encontraron comunidad, expresión y un sentido de pertenencia a través de esa misma música y esa misma época.

Al celebrar el Mes de la Herencia AAPI, esto nos recuerda que estas historias entrelazadas son las que hacen a Los Ángeles una ciudad extraordinaria.

I had an incredible time at Gracianas Tortilleria, a business with 60 years of history and heart in Pacoima. Now led by Jose Gutierrez, who has spent the last 8 years continuing its legacy, this space is filled with tradition, hard work, and over 40 team members, bringing tortillas, tamales, and chile to life every day. I’m so grateful to have been able to see it all up close!

The Olympic & Paralympic Games are just two years away, but our City still hasn’t received the financial transparency we need to protect Los Angeles taxpayers.

That’s why I introduced a motion to amend the City Charter and enshrine a legally binding “Zero-Cost Principle,” ensuring that our City is fully reimbursed for any costs associated with hosting the 2028 Games.

Los Angeles should not be left covering security costs, budget gaps, or last-minute expenses before any surplus is set aside.

I’m fighting to make sure LA28 delivers on its promise: no cost to taxpayers.

I joined Mayor Karen Bass in Sherman Oaks this morning to officially unveil Vega Family Square!

Founded by Ray Vega in 1956, Casa Vega has grown into a true Los Angeles institution—one that reflects the story of immigrant families who helped build the cultural fabric of our city through hard work, tradition, and entrepreneurship.

As Casa Vega celebrates its 70th year as a family-run business, this recognition honors not only the Vega family’s legacy, but also the generations of families who have made Los Angeles stronger through their contributions, their resilience, and their commitment to community.

I share the frustrations and concerns of residents regarding the health and safety hazards posed by RVs in our neighborhoods. It’s why I created the RV-to-Home Program to house individuals and permanently remove RVs in CD7. To date, this has resulted in over 350 people housed, and over 165 RVs removed.

During two recent CARE+ operations, we removed two RVs in Pacoima and successfully placed two individuals into stable housing. We also cleared five abandoned vehicles along Glenoaks Boulevard. My team continues to work closely with LASAN, LADOT, and OPG Black and White to maintain cleaner, safer streets for our community.
