Approximately one in three pets go missing in their lifetime, but microchipping greatly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners. In fire-prone areas like Council District 7, and in other parts of the city vulnerable to natural disasters, microchipping becomes even more essential as it provides a reliable way to reconnect with pets during emergencies.
My office has taken a proactive approach by hosting annual pet resource fairs that include registration and microchipping for house pets, as well as an annual Horse License Registration and Microchipping event at Stetson Ranch. I'm pleased that today, the City Council unanimously recognized the importance of the policy, and I look forward to working with the Department of Animal Services on exploring the feasibility of requiring microchipping for all dogs, cats, rabbits, and horses.

When will this years event be happening?
I was pleased to join female leaders across Los Angeles to celebrate the 11th Annual Women of City Hall and to support CASA LA. As the third elected Latina in the City of Los Angeles and the longest-serving female in City government, I know that representation matters and work hard everyday to make sure that our leaders are reflective of the City’s population. This is especially important for LAPD and LAFD, but equally important for the many bodies that help govern our CIty like the Metro Board of Directors and the City’s Board of Public Works.
CASA LA is an organization that is committed to inclusiveness and to supporting children in the foster care system. CASA LA organizes the community to take action and advocate for children and families in LA County’s child welfare and juvenile justice systems. Through intentional actions, they train caring adults who provide access to resources and life-affirming connections. I encourage you to learn more about CASA LA including volunteer opportunities at casala.org.

I was proud to honor the Latina Golfers Association today at City Council during Latino Heritage Month. The Association was founded in 2008 and is dedicated to empowering women by teaching them how to leverage golf as a valuable business tool. Recognizing golf as a powerful networking platform, the association has introduced over 3,000 Latinas in Los Angeles to the world of business golf, enabling them to participate in business outings and charity tournaments. By breaking down cultural and gender barriers, they have created access to influential circles that may have been previously out of reach for women.
The organization has partnered with local schools to coach girls' golf teams, provide equipment, and open doors to career opportunities in the golf industry. Additionally, the Latina Golfers Association fosters a supportive community where Latinas can network, learn from each other, and grow both personally and professionally. Their commitment to making golf accessible through affordable clinics and youth programs has introduced thousands of individuals from underrepresented communities to the game, transforming the landscape of golf in Los Angeles for the better!
