Los Angeles, CA —Today, the Los Angeles City Council approved Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez’s citywide expansion of her successful RV to Home pilot program, which has been operational in Council District 7 and has resulted in the permanent removal of over 100 recreational vehicles (RVs) from streets and helped 146 individuals transition into interim and permanent housing.
Councilwoman Rodriguez’s initiative has proven that it is possible to move individuals into housing while simultaneously expediting the removal of RVs from city streets. Today’s Council action begins the process to expand this program citywide.
The next steps instructs the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to work with West Valley Homes Yes (WVHS), which operates the program, to create guidelines for other service providers to replicate its success.
“It is incredibly important to create a citywide approach towards addressing RV encampments. By doing so, we ensure that RVs are not merely shuffled between different districts, but are permanently removed, and people are housed with the services they need. This is the best way to invest public resources and to effectively address homelessness. I am proud to have tested this strategy in my Council District and will continue to lead real progress to combat homelessness,” said Councilwoman Rodriguez.
