Here’s a quick recap of what’s happening in the Seventh Council District this week:
3-1-1: How to Access City Services
Whether it’s a broken sidewalk, pothole, or overgrown tree, I am working proactively to implement common-sense fixes to enhance our public spaces and improve the quality of life in the 7th District. Upon entering office, I created the CD 7 Strike Team to pick up bulky items and clean up illegal dumping. To date, my Strike Team has collected over 200,000 pounds of trash throughout the District. Everyone can play a role in keeping our neighborhoods clean by using 3-1-1, a FREE citywide resource that links you to the services and information you need to stay connected to City Hall and beautify your neighborhoods. Cleaning Up the Big Tujunga Wash
My office worked with LAPD’s Hope Team and Sanitation to clean up the city-owned property at the Big Tujunga Wash, a high fire risk zone. We removed 16,000 pounds of trash, collected 180 pounds of hazardous waste, and LAPD issued 28 enforcement citations. In addition, my office has been working with LA Family Housing to provide outreach and housing services to those experiencing homelessness. Public safety is a priority and I will continue to prioritize outreach, enforcement, and cleanup of this vulnerable natural area.
Fighting for Environmental Justice
I was honored to receive the Environmental Justice Award from Pacoima Beautiful and be recognized along with Speaker of the California State Assembly Anthony Rendon and ARUP for our work on creating sustainable communities. We must all exemplify leadership in this area. I will continue fighting for healthy communities to enhance the quality of life for all residents in the 7th District.
Restoring Engine Services at Fire Station 75

This week, I joined Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas to announce the addition of twelve new fire personnel at Fire Station 75 in Mission Hills, further restoring engine services to an area that has been operating with reduced capacity since 2011 budget cuts. The added staffing will increase deployment and improve response times in the Mission Hills area and supplement fire services in Sylmar — the largest service area in Los Angeles. This is a tremendous win for our fire-prone hillsides and neighborhoods. For more information, read here.

Cool off this summer and join us for a free movie night under the stars. On Friday, I screened Beetlejuice, invited food trucks, and hosted a Beetlejuice costume contest at Sunland Park.
