Press Conference at Hansen Dam, Summer Fun Programming and Community Safety

LOS ANGELES, CA- Join Councilwoman Rodriguez and the Department of Recreation of Parks on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Hansen Dam at 12:00 PM to celebrate the start of the summer season, inviting residents to take advantage of free and affordable swim programs. There will be programming for families looking to utilize the City of Los Angeles aquatic facilities, including the biggest municipal swimming pool in the United States, Hansen Dam.

The community can enjoy over 50 of the City of Los Angeles Aquatic Facilities this summer, and adaptive lessons start at three years old to adults. Pools are equipped with ADA chair lifts with the ability for staff to make reasonable accommodations upon request.

This event also provides essential community reminders for water safety to prevent life-threatening accidents. According to the California Department of Developmental Services, drowning is the leading cause of injury-related deaths among children ages five and under. Learning to swim and practicing water safety in a supervised environment saves lives.

The Councilwoman is proud to partner on this initiative to spread awareness and to provide accessible and life-saving water recreation to all ages in the community of all abilities.

Additional summer activities at Hansen Dam include the Annual Summer Movie Nights {Lilo & Stitch: Friday, July 21, 2023, and Finding Nemo: August 04, 2023, at 6:00 PM.)
